If you are a business or homeowner in Boulder, you should jump on the opportunity to get the solar panels you have always wanted but couldn’t afford. Now, Boulder County is seeking applicants for their solar grant program.
The Solar Grant Program is funded by revenue generated through sales and use taxes from the purchase and installation of solar technologies. Some of the taxes are used to provide a tax rebate and others are allocated to the Solar Grant Program.
Since the first grant cycle in March 2008, more than $270,000 has been awarded to nonprofit organizations and homeowners. The grant funds have contributed to the installation of approximately 435 kilowatts of PV and two solar thermal systems, saving recipients more than $50,000 annually and preventing about 445 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) from being emitted per year.
More than $100,000 is available for solar grants, and applications must be received electronically or by mail by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012 (electronic submissions are preferred). For applications and program information, visit the city’s Solar Rebate and Solar Grant Programs website at www.bouldercolorado.gov/lead/solargrant.
